December Challenge: Contentment

Dearest Joyn Community,

The holiday season is officially upon us! I’m writing to you from the glow of my plug-in fireplace, fully committed to the ambiance of a crackling fire… just without any of the actual warmth. As I type, the first winter storm of the season is lingering on the horizon, ready to roll into tomorrow. There’s a certain child like magic in that anticipation, the same feeling I had when I used to yank open my curtains, hoping to see the world transformed overnight by a blanket of sparkly white snow. I may no longer get the thrill of a school delay or cancellation, but that snowy miracle still lives somewhere inside me.

This month, I’ve been reflecting on santosha, the yogic principle of contentment. Not the surface-level kind, but the deep, steady remembering that what we have is enough and who we are is enough. In a world that constantly tells us to strive, grow, optimize, improve, there is something quietly revolutionary about pausing… and noticing the goodness that’s already here.

Maybe you’ve been feeling that tension too. Wanting to become your next, fuller self, while also realizing that life is inviting you back into the tenderness of the present moment.

Santosha reminds us that joy doesn’t only exist in the big wins or the shiny milestones. It lives in the smallest, most human details: the warmth of a mug between your palms, the softness of a blanket pulled to your chin, the smell of something baking in the kitchen, the sound of someone you love laughing in the next room.

My morning moment of contentment lately has been bundling up & taking my coffee for a morning stroll

“Contentment is not the absence of desires but the realization that you are enough exactly as you are”

The holidays have a way of amplifying everything; our hopes, our stress, our longing, our gratitude. But they also offer us a luminous opportunity to look around and see the love that’s been here all along. The love that holds us. The love that sustains us. The love that we sometimes forget to notice when life moves too fast.

As the year winds down, I’m reminding myself that contentment isn’t complacency. We can still grow, still dream, still stretch into new versions of ourselves, while also honoring the beauty of this exact moment. We don’t have to choose one or the other. We get to hold both.

Your invitation this month: Do something just for the joy of it.

Not because it’s productive. .

Not because it’s “good for you.”

Not because it moves you closer to a goal.

.... Just because it warms your heart ❤️

Maybe it’s stepping onto your mat for five slow breaths. Maybe it’s dancing in the kitchen while your coffee brews. Maybe it’s standing at the window tomorrow morning, watching the snow fall, letting yourself feel the child like wonder of how the world can change so drastically overnight....

Let that be enough. Let it be your santosha.

This holiday season, may you remember that abundance isn’t always something you chase, but often, it’s something you recognize.

With warmth, gratitude, and a heart full of winter storm energy,
