June - Feel deeply, hold lightly.
Hello Lovely Joyn Community
June is here, my loves! Both the summer solstice and Cancer season will greet us on June 20th, and as a Cancer myself, I wanted to send love to all my sensitive sweeties and water signs out there ♡
Cancer season invites us to slow down, listen inward, and tend to the emotional landscape beneath the surface. To trust our instincts and come home to ourselves. It’s a reminder to move like water, meeting life in its ebb and flow, soft enough to adapt, steady enough to stay true.
Last month I wrote about detachment, and as someone who feels 〜everything〜 deeply, I’m still exploring what it means to loosen my grip without closing my heart. Lately, that exploration has naturally led me into another yogic teaching: surrender.
And in this season, it feels like an invitation to something even more specific, trust. Trusting yourself. Trusting your effort. Trusting what you put into the world. And trusting that life meets you in ways you may not be able to predict, but can learn to meet.
In the Yoga Sutras, Patanjali describes the Niyamas, or the ethical practices for daily life. One of them being Isvara Pranidhana.
Isvara can be translated as higher power, true self, or ultimate reality.Pranidhana means surrender, devotion, or offering.
Together, they point to surrender as aligning effort with trust. It is not passivity, but participation without forcing. We’re conditioned to believe that if we work harder, think longer, plan better, or hold tighter, we can control outcomes. But often, the tighter we grip, the more we distort what we’re actually trying to receive.
Surrender asks to trust that what you’re building has integrity, and that your energy is not wasted when it’s sincere.
I’ve been returning to a simple phrase: Feel deeply, hold lightly.
On the mat this month, I’ve been exploring what it actually means to trust in real time. To notice when I’m “doing” the practice instead of being in it.
It looks like:
A little less gripping in the hands, jaw, and breath.
A little more space to feel what’s actually there.
A reminder that I don’t have to force depth for something to be effective.
And this awareness of “doing” versus “being” trickles into my own life. I notice when I’m listening to respond versus listening to understand. Or when I’m going through the mundane motions of a day instead of experiencing those tiny nuances that might otherwise pass me by.
What I’ve found is that when I stop trying to control the experience, there’s more room to actually trust it and truly be in it. Because maybe surrender isn’t about letting go of life… but about trusting yourself enough to stop managing the moment and start living it.

We also want to give a special shoutout to the Lynnfield Tech Group, an incredible group of adults with disabilities that we have the privilege of partnering with through yoga. They noticed that we often hand out affirmation and quote cards at our events and asked if they could help create some too.
To those of you who received one of their handmade cards at our last Pru event, we hope it brightened your day as much as it brightened ours. Thank you, Lynnfield Tech Group, for sharing your creativity, kindness, and heart with our community. ♡
