April Challenge: Detoxify for Spring

Hi friends, it's Leah!

If you're getting this email, it means at some point you signed up to receive JOYN's email newsletter. I wanted to pop on here and say thank you for your support of our dreams. As some of you know, I left my full-time job in January and have been exploring what yoga full time could look like. It's thanks to you all that we get our inspiration, events, and community, to move forward with our dreams.

We have some fan-favorite events coming up in April that I wanted to highlight before we get into the full newsletter:

  • This Saturday, April 4th, I will be teaching at Moki Sauna's South End location. This 2 hour experience includes a yoga class, and the rest of the time is yours to use their sauna and cold plunges as you please! Bring a yoga mat and a bathing suit to enjoy both. There will be staff on site to help with the experience, and I'll be there enjoying the spa morning with you:) Ticket link here!

  • We are returning to the Prudential Center!!! We are so excited to share that we were chosen to be part of View Boston's first fitness series. We will be taking over the View four times this Spring- our first being Saturday, April 18th. I will be teaching this class and am excited to kick-off Marathon Monday weekend celebrations with you! Ticket link here!

  • I am also hosting a series of donation-based classes at Wonder Yoga in Arlington to support LUCE- an organization helping families affected by ICE and running the ICE hotline. The idea behind these free classes is that the money you would spend on a fitness class can instead be put towards a good cause! Attached is a flier with all our upcoming dates. The next class is this Friday, April 3, save your spot through Wonder's schedule page.

I've also attached a graphic with all our public events for this month! All links are at the end of the newsletter. Now I'll pass it back to Anna for our regularly-scheduled newsletter. Thank you again for your support! If you ever have questions about events, want to be removed from the email list, or have ideas for future events- email us! May is Mental Health Awareness Month, if you'd like to set up a wellness event for your company we would love to bring the JOY to you!

Much love

Leah

Dearest Joyn Community,

As we arrive at the first days of spring, I’ve been thinking a lot about the idea of detoxifying. Not in the way the world often sells it to us, but as a gentle clearing. A soft release. A way to make a little more space.

This winter felt especially heavy for me. I stepped away from the classroom and into a work from home role in the fall, and with that came a quiet I wasn’t quite prepared for. Around the same time, I let go of a meaningful relationship. These shifts brought less connection, less structure, and a sense of feeling untethered. Somewhere along the way, I could feel myself getting stuck.

Maybe you felt some version of that too.

Winter has a way of pulling us inward. And while there is beauty in that, it can also leave things lingering. Patterns, emotions, habits, heaviness. Things that quietly settle and stay. And then, almost without asking anything of us, the world begins to change. The light stretches a little longer. The air softens. Things start to grow again.

I was on a walk today and saw two tiny turtles sunbathing on a rock. It doesn’t get much sweeter than that. A simple reminder that life is always finding its way back to warmth.

Every year, I reflect on the same thought. If the earth can shift, so can I.

In yoga, we often turn to twists this time of year. Not just for digestion or energy, but for what they represent. When we twist, we gently compress and then release. We create space. We wring out what feels stagnant and invite something new to move through. There is something deeply hopeful in that.

A detox doesn’t have to be dramatic. It can be as simple as paying attention. Mary Oliver writes, “Attention is the beginning of devotion.” Maybe this is where it begins. Just noticing what feels heavy, what feels ready to be released, and what no longer supports the person you are becoming. And then, with care, letting a little of it go.

What are you ready to let go of?

What feels ready to grow?

Maybe your practice this month is to find a twist. To move from your center. To clear a little space. Or maybe it looks like stepping outside more, reaching out to someone you miss, or shaking off the stillness in whatever way feels good in your body.

For me, this season is a reminder that even in the midst of change, there is possibility. That the places that felt tender or uncertain can also be where something new begins. So this month, let’s move toward the light. Toward connection. Toward stability. Toward love. Not all at once, and not perfectly, but gently, and with intention. Spring is here and now is as good a time as any to begin again.

Your practice does not need to fix you, it simply needs to support you. If yoga & connection is something you crave this month, we’ve got you covered:
